Description
Made from a blend of gritty tile material and my usual throwing clay. The facets created as the form was altered and carved after throwing on the wheel to achieve a sense of movement. Poured glaze rather than dipped and some Beech ash glaze trailed to create a contrast. One of the first Japanese glazes to be used, Shino glazes range in colour from milky white to orange, often breaking red at the rim where the glaze thins and sometimes there is charcoal grey spotting, known as “carbon trap” which is the trapping of carbon in the glaze during the firing process.
